1906年から1934年の間に、ユージーン・ド・サリニャックは8x10の写真甲板でニューヨークの街を2000枚以上撮影し、めまぐるしく変化していくこの時代に、新しく建設される橋や建物、地下鉄などのインフラを記録していった。
何年にもわたってこの非常に叙情的な写真は本や映画の中で使われてきたが、サリニャックの名前がそこに記載されることはなかった。この書籍はサリニャックの独自の視点を忠実に収録した、彼の初となるモノグラフ。サリニャックが記録していた撮影地や日時などの情報もこの本には収録され、資料的な価値も高い書籍となっている。
