ベルギーのアーティストLuc Tuymansは同世代の中で最も敬意を受ける画家の一人。個展[Against the Day]は仮想現実、幻想や錯覚をテーマにした20点のシリーズ作で構成された。この本に付けられた[Against the Day]というタイトルは、トマス・ピンチョンの同タイトル書籍から取って付けられた。オリジナルな絵というのは存在しないと確信している彼は、自身の絵を「本物の偽造」と読んでいて、彼の絵は常に、既に存在しているドローイングや写真、映画のスチール写真などを基礎としている。
