ウゴ・ラ・ピエトラは60年代から道路のデザインに深く関わって来た。たくさんのプロジェクトが彼を刺激したが、一番共通しているのは公共とプライベートの空間の境界線をどのようになくすかということだった。「Living]のコンセプトはどこにいても家に居る時のような、というような考えからスタートし、彼はその研究をミラノに設置した立体物に用いた。そこでの分析結果はプライベートな空間と公共空間との大きな差を見出す事になる。この本はピエトラがどのようにして道路（公共）の設置物をその場に適した設置物に変えたかを見せるビジュアルブック。
