「美術作品は成長し、花開いて美味しい果物や野菜をつくる。」ロンドンを拠点にするアーティスト、ニルス・ノーマンはボランティアと協力して、パーマカルチャーを基盤とする特別な野菜畑[Edible Park]を作った。パーマカルチャーとは、エコロジカルな（野菜）ガーデニングのことで、お互いに補強しあう異なる植物を組み合わせる。それはデザイン哲学でもあり、ガーデニングだけではなく建築物のデザインによって自然に培われたガイドラインを踏襲する。ノルマンの関心は、ユートピアは希望に満ちあふれた楽園のような場所だという古い考えに魅了されたことに起因している。この本では仕事への取り組みや、彼のインスピレーションの源、芸術的で社会的／批評的文脈における彼の取り組みの位置づけ、公的なアートプロジェクトの重要性などについて言及しつつ、視覚的な物質の豊かさやDIYといった観点を盛り込んでいる。
