The Best German Book Design 2009

The A5 series is intended as a growing archive on graphic design. Each volume introduces outstanding personalities and important themes from the history of international graphic design, with numerous illustrations, essays and interviews. A5 is a cooperation between the labor visuell in the desgin department at the Fachhochschule Düsseldorf and Lars Müller Publishers.
For more than 30 years, designer Celestino Piatti endowed the covers of books published by dtv with a singular look. With more than 6300 covers to his credit, amounting collectively to a total of 200 million volumes, Piatti was one of the most productive designers of all time. Covering the years 1960 to 1990, this volume documents one of the most important chapters of German-language literature.
